I was reminded recently that not everyone is wired for creativity like I am. And can you blame them? We live in a society that values logic over emotion, technology over art, and the tangible (what we can see) over the intangible (what we can feel). Men are especially at risk of under developing their creative and EQ skills due to social conditioning, gender roles, and an often global association of creativity with femininity and logic with masculinity. On top of this, if we donât identify as âcreativeâ we create a self-perpetuating narrative that limits our ability to be creative. Ask me how I know! I did not grow up being nurtured for creativity. I didnât have teachers or parents that celebrated my artistic creations, nor did I have a knack for creativity in the traditional sense. It is a muscle that I have strengthened over the last 15 years and it is still do this day something that challenges me. Hereâs the truth: we are ALL wired for creativity, but if you donât use it you indeed âlose itâ - sort of. If we neglect imaginative & emotional thinking, the brainâs neural pathways responsible for those processes can weaken over time, making it more challenging to access and utilize our creative potential. This means if youâre constantly being pulled into the nuts & bolts of operating your business, youâre likely not putting your energy and focus into the more emotional side of your guest experience. This likely has you in the âfixing potholesâ mentality rather than the âcreating peak momentsâ mentality. The beauty of neuroplasticity is that our brains are adaptable! With the right exposure, education, and experiences, you can re-wire your brain and become more creative, more tuned into the emotional realm of this world, and come up with thoughtful solutions to surprise & delight your guests. âReverie was created to support you in stepping into the creative realm. To look outside of the eco-chambers of the hospitality & tourism industry and think/create in terms of engagement, immersion, and emotional impact.
âReverie has been very helpful in this journey and has unlocked a whole new way to curate experiences and I'm so excited!â - Nadia
And of course, if you have no desire to strengthen your creative wiring and enjoy the more left-brain, analytical day to day tasks - thatâs OK! But someone on your team needs to be dedicated to the opposite side of the spectrum. You need to surround yourself with creative, emotionally intelligence people to balance things out.
âI've been in a MAJOR slump with our property (like weekly tears of frustration haha) and after just a few hours with Reverie, Im already motivated.â - Kylee

If I challenged you to make a moment more immersive, what would you do? Would you know which levers to pull? How many immersion strategies would you know to implement? Experience design isn't always instinctual, it's part science. Even story has formulas - a string of occurrences doesnât make something a story. (THIS does.) If youâre responsible for the guest journey in your business, you should be able to take any basic activity or moment and add layers to it to make it more dynamic and...
"Stories set the inner life into motion, and this is particularly important where the inner life is frightened, wedged, or cornered. Story greases the hoists and pulleys, it causes adrenaline to surge, shows us the way out, down, or up, and for our trouble, cuts for us fine wide doors in previously blank walls, openings that lead to the dreamland, that lead to love and learning, that lead us back to our own real livesâŠâ â Clarissa Pinkola Estes The deeper into the world of story I go, the...
âThey're not looking for a story that tells them who they are - they already know who they are. They're here because they want a glimpse of who they could be.â - Dr. Robert Ford I scribbled this quote down when watching Westworld many years ago, and just stumbled upon it again as I was cleaning out my notes. Pretty wise for a fictional character, right? Travel brings out old & new sides to us. Sides weâve only had glimpses of. Hidden, never-before-seen sides. Sides weâve rejected &...
